Service Tip: Putting your bike on the road in the Spring

Spring is just around the corner, so besides the obvious stuff you're gonna do to put your bike back on the road, we want you to pay particular attention to your tires. Make sure that you check pressures, and adjust if required. On most Harley-Davidsons equipped with Dunlop tires, the cold pressures should be 36psi front, and 40psi rear. Also check for uneven tread wear, and any deterioration in the sidewalls and in the tread itself. This will usually show up as tiny cracks, and if your tires are affected, you should consider replacement as soon as possible.

Early season riding also has some road conditions that must be remembered by the rider. Potholes, and roadway heaving are things that happen every spring, and can be unpleasant, if you are not paying attention. Motorists are not used to looking for motorcycles, and in the spring especially. Also winter sand that has collected in, and around intersections, can be exciting, if you're not prepared for it. There is no substitute for properly inflated tires that have good tread depth, to help get you through with the proper side up.

Look after the minor details, and you shouldn't have big problems getting back on the road this Spring.
