Teddy Bears of Hope

Miss Canada, 2010, Bridgett Nickerson, was on hand October 24th 2009 to help kick off Barrie Harley-Davidson’s participation in the “Teddy Bears of Hope” fundraiser.

These teddy bears have been distributed globally to children whose lives have been impacted by natural disasters, economic struggles and war.  It is hoped that they fill the emotional void created by these traumatic circumstances by bringing back some measure of hope and joy to displaced youngsters.

Barrie Harley-Davidson and a troop of volunteers recently transported approximately 50,000 teddy bears to Barrie and provided them with their new winter den while they await a spring migration in May 2010 to Uganda.

It is hoped that their number doubles by then and continued monetary donations will be gratefully appreciated to help cover the cost of overseas transportation.

For further information on the “Teddy Bears of Hope” and how you can help, visit http://www.teddybearsofhope.com or contact Sylvia Stark (416)434-9839.

2009 Barrie Firefighter Fashion Show

October 6th 2009 ushered in the sixth annual “Sizzling in the City” Barrie Firefighter Fashion Show. This years theme was “Girls Night Out”, held at 364 St. Vincent Street, Barrie.Tickets were $35 each with $10 of the calendar sales going to the firefighter’s charity, Camp Bucko Summer Camp (for burn victims).

Spokeswoman Charlene Myke acknowledged the importance of this event in raising much needed funds for “Easter Seals Ontario”, not only through ticket sales but also through the auction at the end of the evening where bidding for “Dinner Out” with the firefighters raised approximately $4000!

Ladies were treated to free samples from over 60 local vendors and restaurants, a chance to have their calendar autographed by the “Stud of Choice” as well as cheer on the guys as they strutted their stuff on the cat walk.

The Barrie Harley-Davidson girls got to enjoy the heat of the moment as they distributed bags of HD swag, and even helped raise the temperature and bidding as they reminisced about being last years winners of an awesome dinner experience.
